Reports Generator

Reproducibility and documentation of analyses are essential for any data driven research. Red-R is naturally self documenting in that the schema will be returned to it’s state at save time on reopening. This means that any settings in the canvas or the widgets will be returned so that these settings can be scrutinized later. Furthermore, Red-R provides a notes section in every widget so users can record pertinent information about analyses.
Often, users want to have a stable document that reflects analysis at some point in time. Such a document should include all settings of the analysis performed on the data. Also, plots and graphs of data or results should be included. Red-R includes a report function which will compile the data report into an Open Document Text format as well as a restructuredtext format along with outputting any images that were generated during the course of analysis.
To make a report navigate to Files-Compile Report and specify the name of the file you would like to generate. After Red-R has compiled the report you will have a .odt file which can be viewed in most document editors as well as a folder with the name of your file and “Data-” in front of it. In the “Data” folder is a file ending in .rst (restructuredtext) which you can also open with any text editor. Also in the “Data” folder are any images that were generated in making your report which you can open and copy as you see fit.
The Report system is still evolving and any comments or suggestions would be appreciated (red-r.org/forums).
